Brush for Better GI Health

A study reported in the Canadian Journal of Gastroenterology demonstrates that patients with gum disease have higher levels of H. pylori bacteria in their GI tracts. The bacterium may cause peptic ulcers and gastritis. Researchers reports that pockets in the gums harbor colonies of H. pylori. In the study, 78% of patients with gum disease had both oral and gastric H. pyloribacteria. Researchers conclude that the mouth may harbor the bacteria and transmit or reinfect the patient. Medwire News, March 31, 2009
