Down the Hatch: Controllable Pill-Sized Camera Facilitates Internal Exams

Pill-sized cameras are not new; however, a new camera designed by German scientists can be controlled by a magnetic device. A patient swallows the device, and a doctor uses the magnetic device to move the camera around in the patient’s body. The camera follows the movements of the magnet, allowing the doctor to adjust and stop it as needed. The control system was developed by Given Imaging by collaboration of a hospital in Hamburg, Germany, Imperial College in London, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering. upi.com, June 5, 2008
